Recovery, Challenges

Never give up! But what does that mean?

These past few months have been a challenge with never ending Teledoc visits with specialists trying to figure out what is going on with my body. Countless tests, hospital stays, pages of results and still no answers.

The good news is we have not seen anything definitive indicating serious problems with my spine. This is very, very good news! But we still don’t know what’s going on with the constant spasms and painful tone which has been affecting my breathing.

I am being considered for a surgical procedure yet I’m hesitant because I would be the first quadriplegic in the world to have this device implanted and there are a lot of questions which have gone unanswered. Plus there are no guarantees.

All the while the pain continues to increase and my functional skills continue to decrease. I have not walked since September of 2020 and would love to get back to my form as seen in the video above which was taken in September 2018, nearly 3 years ago! I have no doubt we will get there in time.

My attitude is positive – never give up! We’re hear that all the time but what does it really mean? It means having the resolve to commit to an outcome regardless of the obstacles and distractions I encounter along the way.

Unfortunately society has put too much of an emphasis on the end result as seen in weight loss commercials and glamour magazine’s. But we don’t see the struggle in between the before and after. I think we can all relate to those times when it seems so easy to throw in the towel as many do.

I continue to break the big goals into baby steps, sometimes micro steps. It helps me keep the big picture in focus without getting bogged down by the minutia of having to hit a grand slam in order to win the game.

We don’t know where our lives will lead us as there are many curves in the road along the way. Regardless of the circumstances we need to remind ourselves the best of times are just around the corner.

💕💕Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms on this very special day. And a special thanks to my mom for always being there and never giving up on me.
