Challenges

Gretchen Dunoyer - Beating Lyme Disease

In January of 2017, I joined the Joe Sharron Challenge. This was my challenge statement.

January 22, 2017 Challenge

My challenge is to continue to move through intensive Lyme disease treatment with ease and grace and to come out the other side with vibrancy and restored health.  I remain unattached to the outcome and fully accept whatever comes. I live fully and joyfully with “what is” and embrace each moment of my life, even the challenging ones.  My daily mantra: My body knows how to heal and does so magnificently. And I get out of the way, do my work and let the miracles happen.

September 26, 2019 update

The great news is that I completed intensive treatment for Lyme and co-infections around the end of 2017.  I continue to integrate daily supportive practices, take key supplements, and see practitioners that support an ongoing healing process.  A key statement in my challenge: I remain unattached to the outcome. The outcome did not yield the fully vibrant and functional body I had hoped for.  I am about 50% “recovered,” and contend with daily symptoms from neurological Lyme. But my spirit is strong, and in November of 2017 I embarked upon a year long training to become an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach.  After graduating in November of 2018 (from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition), I began building the foundation of a new career, which dovetails beautifully with my previous nursing career.

I have realized a dream, one of finding a path of sharing my gifts with the world again, within the confines of daily symptoms and limited energy.  I have only a few clients at a time, and tend to the other aspects of this work when I am able. But the joy I feel when I sit with a client watching them blossom, create a new healthy recipe, write a blog, or expand client resources lights me up completely. I’m in my little corner of the world, sharing my love, and sending it out.

It’s still not an easy road, however.  Some days really take me down. But as my huge-hearted son, Jamie, said to me on a day when I was experiencing debilitating and soul-crushing symptoms:

Mom, you don’t need to be “doing” anything.  You are shining your light from your little corner of the world so brightly, even when you don’t feel well.

This was very eye-opening for me.  We are all this light. Joe is the light.  You are the light. Even that person you disagree with whole-heartily is the light.

Joe has been such an inspiration to me, and continues to be so, as I know he is to many, many people.  Joe shines so brightly. May we all turn on this brilliance and radiance, and share it with the world, no matter where you are and what you do.

Lots of love,
Gretchen Dunoyer
